Fill in and Step Up

This month our teacher spotlight is Mr. McDonell! I had the pleasure of getting to interview him about his experience as an interim substitute. Mr. Maechler, one of our social studies teachers at the school was out on paternity leave for the past 3 weeks, this meant we needed a sub and Mr. McDonell was there to fill in the spot. Some questions I asked were, what has been your favorite part of interim teaching? He responded, “Talking with students and getting to know them”. Having an Economics class, I got to experience Mr. McDonell and I can confidently say he was a great choice for the position, he was always ready to help any students and always described assignments as thorough as he was able. His dedication to helping students grow was admirable and deserved to be recognized. Some other questions I chose to ask were, what subject was your favorite to teach? He responded, “U.S. History, my passions lie the most with it and I’m fascinated most by it”. Finally, I asked what do you prefer being a long-term sub or a 1-day sub? He answered without hesitation “Long-term sub, the consistency makes it easier.” If you see Mr. McDonell in the halls tell him, thank you!
