HOSA- Future Health Professionals, which was previously named Health Occupations Students of America is an international student led organization that is recognized by the U.S Department of Education and Health Science Education (HSE). The goal of HOSA is to empower students who have an interest in health care and to help them grow and learn. HOSA was founded in 1976 in Texas by the Texas Association of Health Occupations for students enrolled in health occupation classes. Here at Sultan High School, we have our own HOSA chapter, currently they are hosting their annual coat drive for the families in need in our valley. Our Sultan HOSA is also planning another blood drive for this January. If you are 16 or 17 with parental consent you can donate blood, 18-year-olds may also donate without parental consent. Over the next couple of months your HOSA enthusiasts will be preparing for educational state where they can compete in multiple health related competitions such as anatomy, CPR, First Aid and so many more. If you didn’t already know our very own HOSA President is Paetyn Schlicker. Our VP is Grace Plummer. Secretary – Jenna Fleming, Treasurer- Paige Vanhulle, our two ASB representatives are Mckenna Murphy and Paige Schlicker, and last but not least our Social Media Managers are Madaline Pells, and Isabella Webb. These amazing driven students are your very own Sultan High School HOSA. I have asked Paetyn what it means to her to be our HOSA President, here is what she has to say, “For me being HOSA President means that I can take part in inspiring other students to enjoy health sciences and maybe consider a career in a health care profession. This is really important right now because we are currently in a big health care worker shortage. It also means that I get to explore my own health science passions and get to practice all of the parts of being a future doctor just within the club and the classroom.” If these activities inspire you, consider coming out to a meeting, they are every Thursday in room 404(Mrs. Varnell's room) at 7 am.
