This 26th baseball has begun; however, players were working far before that. Fridays the Turks had captains’ practices getting extra in preparation for the season. Last year the Turks finished near .500 with a 7-9 record and 2 first all-conference players. The Turks lost 5 senior players but have 4 returning starters from last year including captains Kegan Aamold and Derek Feltner as well as key contributors Kaden Koehler, Brek Bush, and Jacob Fettig. The Turks are poised to strike and steal a playoff spot this year after heartbreaking defeat last year in the district play in game. The Turks are also looking to make some new freshman additions this season to help propel the team for a playoff push. The first game for the Turks will take place on March 12th at Mt. Baker high school. Here’s what Kegan had to say in anticipation of a great season “We’ve looked solid so far, of course there is plenty to work on, but I love the potential that we have on this squad” The Turks showed up last Saturday to help clean the field in preparation for this year. Last year the Turks had 2 1st team all-conference players as well as 2 honorable mention players with 3 of them returning for this season. The Turks will have 4 seniors, the team is underclassmen heavy but that doesn’t mean they are not ready to strike. I interviewed Head Coach Steve Leverett about the season, I asked him his thoughts on the season, he replied: “I’m very optimistic about our season this year, with some strong senior, and junior leadership. The key will be which underclassmen will step up and challenge for a staring roll with varsity. I think we will compete well against every team this year. With having the first practice today I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw.”
